The Robert S. Huthart Collection of Non-Iwami Netsuke
Davies, Barry
8.9 x 12.9", 304 pp., 220 items illustrated in color, cloth, d.j., London, 1998. (o.p.; sl wear to d.j., text near fine)
Richly illustrated and well-researched, this catalog features one of the most important collections of netsuke to have become available since the M.T. Hindson Collection of the late 1960s. The Huthart Collection contains no fewer than 14 pieces by Masanao of Kyoto, 18 by Toyomasa of Tamba, and 11 by Masatsugu of Osaka, as well as one of the most pleasing pieces carved to Tomotada, the famous cat with captured rat, and wonderful unsigned pieces, many from some of the most renowned collections assembled earlier this century.
