This is the exhibition catalogue of Zhong Biao’s one-man show at Schoeni Gallery in Hong Kong. In his works we find a montage of myth and reality, of modernism and traditionalism, and of present and history. One contributor explains this deliberate mixture of classical furniture, cityscape, advertisement signs and Han figurines: ‘This kind of contradictory mix-up, a simultaneous concern towards self and others, is virtually the cultural characteristics of the 90s in China, of the developing countries and of consumerism. Time and tide, like the fragments of life elapsed in the wind, the painter uses his mirror to reflect life under the sunshine and critically examine contemporary life and society’.
