西域文化与敦煌艺术
Xiyu wenhua yu Dunhuang yishu [The Culture of Western Regions and the Art of Dunhuang]
何山
He, Shan

7.5 x 10.75", 577 pp., color plates, text in Chinese, board, d.j., Lanzhou, 2014.

Originally trained as an mural painter, Author He Shan spent over 40 years traveling in the Northwestern China and doing research on the art and history of Dunhuang Caves. He introduces the concept of "Western Regions" to include the broad area along the Silk Road. Rather than discussing Dunhuang art in the context of Chinese art history, his analysis focuses on inter-regional communication of the four great ancient civilizations, changes of political and economic configuration in the history of the Western Regions.
