This book is a report of excavation at the Fangyingtai site in the Wuchang district of Wuhan, Hubei province. The report provides an overview of the geography, environment, and excavation process at Fangyingtai, and describes the findings in terms of the four cultures and periods represented: Qujialing (屈家岭) Neolithic culture, Shijiahe (石家河) Neolithic culture, Western Zhou dynasty culture, and tombs from the Song dynasty.

Most of the findings date from the Neolithic periods, and include tombs, shovels, axes, chisels, jars, cups, bowls and other objects; the Western Zhou findings include stone tools, pottery and bronzes showing influence from the cultures of Chu, Yue and the Central Plain; and the Song findings include porcelain, pottery and bronze coins which cast new light on the study of the dates and craftsmanship of the local kilns.
