The San Antonio Museum of Art houses one of the most extensive and comprehensive collections of Asian art in the southern United States. The opening of the Lenora and Walter F. Brown Asian Art Wing in 2005, with 15,000 square feet of galleries, placed much of this impressive collection on public display.

Seventy-three works of art are presented here, many for the first time, providing an invaluable resource for scholars and a beautiful sampling of the collection for aficionados and casual readers. The entries that accompany each of the illustrations provide aesthetic commentary, curatorial detail, and information on the era or medium to enrich the visual experience. Ojbects are grouped by geographical and political designations into 3 sections: China; Japan and Korea; and Southeast Asia, the Himalayas, and the Tibetan Plateau. The essays that precede each selection of works capture a sense of the history and cultural evolution of these rich and diverse lands and peoples.
