This bilingual volume showcases 200 lacquerwares from the collections of the National Palace Museum, Taipei. The focus is on the Ming and Qing dynasties, in particular the Yongxuan (Yongle and Xuande reign periods of the Ming Dynasty), Jiawan (Jiajing and Wanli reign periods of the Ming Dynasty), and Qianlong (Qianlong reign period of the Qing dynasty) styles. In addition to a chapter on each of these styles of lacquers, this book also includes a chapter on Song and Yuan-Dynasty lacquers, a chapter on laquerware revival in the late Qing and early Republican eras, an introduction, a glossary, a list of plates, and a bibliography. Each chapter includes a page of explanatory text, high-quality color plates showing multiple views and details, and paragraph-long captions. The captions and glossary are in traditional Chinese only, while the introduction, the introductory text in each chapter, the list of plates, and the bibliography are in both Chinese and English.
