The Yungang grottoes, located near the Chinese city of Datong in Shanxi province, is one of the most celebrated examples of early Buddhist cave art from the 5th through 6th centuries. Made up of 252 grottoes and more than 50,000 Buddhist statues, the Yungang grottoes have also been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in order to preserve its historic symbolism.
