Although not known to most people, Emperor Kangxi and the Sun King Louis XIV had had a long line of history with each other. This special exhibit will reveal the Sino-Franco connections and mutual emulation that had played an important role in the later development of arts and culture in China and France. To allow the artifacts to tell a more complete story, the exhibit is grouped into four parts: The first section gives a comprehensive account of Emperor Kangxi and the Sun King Louis XIV; the second reveals the bridge connecting the two monarchs engineered by the French Jesuits; the third addresses the Sino-Franco connections and mutual emulation in arts and culture; the fourth illustrates the resulting innovations in China and France in the wake of the encounters. Through this exhibit tourists will be offered an opportunity to explore the glorious days of the 17th Century, when East met West.
