Ito Jakuchu, a painter in Kyoto who shone as a unique talent with his individualistic painting style amidst Edo period. He produced intricately detailed paintings in vivid colors and on the other hand, humorous ink paintings characterized by lively impromptu brushwork.

This exhibition on Jakuchu commemorates the 300th anniversary of his birth. It presents approximately eighty masterpieces by Jakuchu, from his youth through his final years, ranging from intricately worked vividly lovely birds and flowers paintings to ink paintings with lightly washed lines and prints that present a uniquely individualistic monochrome world by printing techniques that cannot be replicated today.
