This catalogue, Enlightening Elegance: Imperial Porcelain of the Mid to Late Ming, is of the exhibition held at the Art Museum of the Chinese University of Hong Kong from December, 2012 to April, 2013, a continuum of Ethereal Elegance, which was published along its corresponding exhibition in 2007. The 128 exhibits are Mid to Late Imperial Ming porcelain vases and saucers, all drawn from the renowned HuaiHaiTang collection of Mr Anthony K. W. Cheung. This collection is elegantly delicate, providing great opportunities for artistic appreciation. In the late Ming dynasty, Emperor Zhengde, Emperor Jiajing, and Emperor Wanli were Muslim, Daoist, and Buddhist respectively. Their distinct religious backgrounds are portrayed on the corresponding Imperial porcelain explicitly. Chung aspires to let audiences enter the personal pantheon of the late Ming emperors of some 400 years ago through this practical medium of Imperial porcelain, and to have better understanding of the lavish religious world of the late Ming emperors.
