UCCA presents “Immaterial / Re-material,” a group exhibition tracing the history, present, and future of computing art through more than 70 artworks by more than 30 artists from around the world, ranging from the pioneers of the 1960s to today’s emerging voices.
UCCA published a bilingual exhibition catalogue to accompany “Immaterial / Re-material.” The publication is formatted into two sections, “Images,” including comprehensive documentation of each exhibited artwork, and “Texts,” which features artist interviews and work descriptions alongside essays by exhibition curator Jerome Neutres, renowned philosopher of technology Yuk Hui, and pioneering digital artist Edmond Couchot, who shares a personal account of the origins of computing art.
1985年，由法国哲学家让—弗朗索瓦·利奥塔（Jean-Fran?ois Lyotard）和设计理论家蒂埃里·沙皮（Thierry Chaput）策划的开创性展览“非物质”在巴黎蓬皮杜艺术中心举办，试图在技术飞速发展的背景下，重述一种后现代的感知性。如今，我们再度进入一个新技术主导的时代，互联网和计算机已经成为日常生活的重要部分，对新技术和艺术与科技的探索与反思成为必需。UCCA在2020年秋季推出聚焦于计算机艺术的大型群展“非物质／再物质：计算机艺术简史”，通过30余位／组艺术家的创作，梳理20世纪60年代至今“计算机艺术”的发展历程，对机器学习美学、数字客体性以及科学技术的反思进行探讨。此次展览既是对1985年的“非物质”展览致敬，也为“计算机艺术”写下新的篇章。
《非物质／再物质：计算机艺术简史》是配合展览同期发行的中英双语出版物，分为图册和文集两卷，分别收录完整展出作品的高清图片以及展览、作品相关的文字和参展艺术家采访；图册和文集通过索引相互关联补充，以呼应“非物质／再物质”这一主题。本书还邀请到技术哲学领域的著名学者许煜（Yuk Hui）专门撰文，并收录此次展览的策展人黑阳（Jerome Neutres）的文章，以及计算机艺术先驱艾德蒙·库绍（Edmond Couchot）的创作历程自述。同时，展览还将推出在线网站，并将网站二维码附在纸质图录中，为读者更全面立体地呈现展览所回顾的“计算机艺术”的历史及其所指向的未来。纸本图录与在线网站均由青年创意设计团队loof.design担纲设计。
