This book is published jointly by Jiazhuo Press and Peking University Press, Peiwen Editorial Department, as the Chinese translation of the exhibition catalog *Tales from the Land of Dragons* from the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. It features over 150 fine works of painting and calligraphy, all displayed in full-color images authorized by the museum. The book is upgraded to a two-volume set, with one volume for illustrations and another for explanations, making it easier to appreciate and study.

The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, is a leading institution in the collection of Chinese painting and calligraphy outside of China, with a history of over 100 years of collecting. Based on this tradition, the museum has accumulated an unparalleled collection of masterpieces, including *The Portraits of Emperors* attributed to Yan Liben, *The Procession of the Lustration Silk* and *Five-colored Parrot* by Emperor Huizong of Song (Zhao Ji), and *Nine Dragons* by Chen Rong of the Southern Song Dynasty. The exhibition *Tales from the Land of Dragons* draws inspiration from this outstanding collection, bringing together over 150 exquisite pieces dating from the 4th century to the 14th century. These rare and highly significant works are seldom publicly displayed.

The exhibition catalog *Tales from the Land of Dragons* is the most comprehensive catalog of Chinese painting and calligraphy ever published by the museum, including 153 paintings and calligraphy pieces exhibited, along with 80 additional works from the museum’s collection for reference. The Chinese edition, *Tales from the Land of Dragons: Chinese Painting and Calligraphy from the Tang, Song, and Yuan Dynasties in the Collection of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston*, maintains the content of the original edition while upgrading to a two-volume set: the illustration volume features full-color images of the 153 pieces, tripling the number of illustrations from the original edition; the explanation volume is compiled and written by Wu Tung, Head of the Department of Asian Art at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, with translations and editing by outstanding scholars in the field of painting and calligraphy, ensuring the professionalism and accuracy of the Chinese edition.

作者：吴同，字问楼，闽人。曾从溥心畬先生学诗文及书画鉴赏，1962至1965年在台中故宫博物院书画处工作。1965年秋留学美国，在密歇根大学进修，1971年赴哈佛读博，并兼任波士顿美术博物馆东方部研究员，负责馆藏中国文物的展览陈列等事。1985年起任东方部部长，2004年退休后任名誉东方部部长至今。2006—2014年受聘为韩国高丽大学考古美术系客座教授。
Author: Wu Tung, courtesy name Wenlou, from Fujian province. He studied poetry, literature, and painting appraisal under Master Pu Xinyu. From 1962 to 1965, he worked in the Painting and Calligraphy Department of the National Palace Museum in Taichung. In the fall of 1965, he went to the United States to study at the University of Michigan and in 1971 pursued his PhD at Harvard, while also working as a research fellow in the Department of Asian Art at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, where he was responsible for exhibitions and displays of Chinese cultural relics. Starting in 1985, he served as Head of the Department of Asian Art, and after retiring in 2004, he became the department's Honorary Head, a title he holds to this day. From 2006 to 2014, he was a guest professor in the Department of Archaeology and Art History at Korea University.
